Cortona

The VILLAGE belongs to the Mancinis, a noble, patrician Cortonese family. In its genealogical tree most famous is Girolamo Mancini, a scholar and a patriot along with Garibaldi in 1860 and 1866. He is the author of memorable biographies: "The Life of Luca Signorelli", "The Life of Lorenzo Valla", "The Life of Leon Battista Alberti", and of exhaustive studies like "Cortona in the Middle Ages" and "Cortonese Writers and Codes". He was Gonfalonier of Cortona, Member of the Italian Parliament for two legislatures, Head Librarian and "Lucumone" of the Etruscan Academy. In 1881 was the founder of the Popolare di Cortona Bank. A truly historical figure of Cortona, his legend adds to the allure of VILLAGE "Il Melone".

The VILLAGE, which to date has eight spacious apartments, has been restored with extreme care in keeping the original nature of every detail. In the last century it was truly an independent little village with the main central Villa and with the surrounding residences of the farmhands. It is here that were also housed all the tools needed for the production of the local goods: olive oil, wine, wheat, etc. It is therefore as homage to the original function of this complex and to all the values that this past civilization was able to affirm that the names of today's living units ideally repeat the main expressions of such an industrious culture.
